Born & raised in South Carolina, I grew up around aviation.  My father was a private pilot who had been flying since 1955 and owned a few different planes during my youth.  I had my first flight lesson in 1986 and did a lot of my primary training in my dad’s 1947 Cessna 120 taildragger.  I enlisted in the US Air Force in 1994 and life got in the way of flying.  I only trained sporadically for the next 20+ years.  Over my 24 year career, I was stationed at Andrews AFB, MD; Hanscom AFB, MA; Sembach AB, Germany; and Travis AFB, CA.  Once I transferred to California in 2010, I started training again between work and deployments and passed my private pilot checkride in 2015.

After retiring from the Air Force in 2018, I moved to Arizona and discovered that Yavapai College had an aviation program.  I fired up my GI Bill  and started YC in 2019 and by 2021 I had had completed most of my ratings.  I began instructing in 2021 and also began teaching aviation ground classes at YC that same year.

I live in Prescott, AZ with my wife, 5 cats, 2 horses, and a flock of chickens.  In my spare time I volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol as both an airplane and drone pilot along with several support positions.

My Flying inspiration, my dad with his last airplane — A Taylorcraft BC-12D. He was always a taildragger man at heart.
